Observing Nature

F A U N A   &  F L O R A   O F   L A D A K H

Wildlife & Photography Tours in Ladakh

In Ladakh where the majority of the local population belongs to the Buddhist community, killing of living creatures is considered a sinful act. Hunting was never popular in this region. This is the major reason why the rich natural biodiversity is still well preserved. Animals as well as plants, have successfully adapted to this extreme and difficult climatic environment.

There are presently 33 larger mammal species recorded in Ladakh, and more than three hundred bird species that have been spotted here. The Himalayan region of Ladakh is therefore a paradise for the observation of wild animals in their natural habitat. Bird watchers, nature lovers, and wildlife fans alike will find in Ladakh the perfect location for their hobby.

The high-altitude region has a fragile eco-system, and it deserves your special care and conservation, so that it is not disturbed to the disadvantage of its unique flora, and fauna. Please take care of it. Do not discard garbage in environment, use as less plastic as possible, and do not go to close to the wild animals. Thank you for your cooperation.
